Three Things You Need to Know About Paper Boxes

But not all brown-colored paper boxes are equal. For a customer, it hardly matters whether it is a cardboard box or a corrugated box. But for a business owner, it is important to know what it is and what are the different types of paper boxes.

In this post, we will look at the three key things you need to know about paper boxes.

1. Difference between cardboard and corrugated box

A cardboard or cardboard box is made of thick paper stock or heavy-duty paper pulp whereas a corrugated box is made up of three layers of paper that include an inside liner, fluting with a ruffled shape, and an outside liner. Cereal boxes are cardboard boxes, and packaging boxes are corrugated boxes. There is a significant difference between the strength of the cardboard and the corrugated box. Although both boxes are made of the same material, it’s important to know that these materials are not the same. Due to differences in their internal structure, their properties differ.

Fluting in the corrugated board is a large contributor to the strength of the board. Once these sheets of paper are glued together, they create a strong corrugated board which is converted into containers that can last long shipping journeys, shocks, bumps, and falls.

2. Different types of corrugated boxes

The majority of the paper boxes used for packaging are corrugated boxes. But not all corrugated boxes are equal. Corrugated boxes are of different types: single-face, single-wall, double-wall, and triple-wall.

Single-Face

In this type, one sheet of the liner adheres to one sheet of corrugated medium. This type of board is typically sold in rolls and can be used to wrap around products for protection or cushioning. It is used as a protective layer for an already packaged item.

Single-Wall

Single-wall board contains one sheet of corrugated medium glued between two sheets of the liner. It is the most common type of board in the market. It comes in different thicknesses starting with C-flute and going down to F-flute. It can be used for shipping boxes, packaging material, and retail displays.

Double-Wall

In this type, two sheets of the corrugated medium are glued between three sheets of the liner. It is used for shipping heavier products.

Triple-Wall

It contains three sheets of corrugated medium glued between four sheets of the liner. This type of board is the strongest out of all the board styles.

3. Different shapes of corrugated boxes

There are many different shapes of corrugated boxes available in the market. The most popular shapes of corrugated boxes are regular slotted containers, full overlap containers, and piece folders. However, you can customize the shape of the box as per our needs.

So these are the key three things you need to know about paper boxes.
